Public Piano // Concept
Public piano project initiated from company brief, to connect public picnic tables with a smartphone application.
At first I explored leisure around the table activities, thinking about tools, accessible in the public space.
While most smartphone activities disconnect us from the surroundings, the piano feedback enables communicative activity, that spreads outside, and links the surrounding to the activity and creates spheral communication.
The piano is a combination of a public, durable, non-electronic, simple object on one hand, and a private expensive and smart tool on the other.
The illustrated QR code on the table connects the user to the phone application that should be installed on his smartphone. After installing, the user can put his phone on the table, camera facing his hands, enables the smartphone application to recognize his finger’s location on the illustrated keyboard and play the chords accordingly.
